We have 27 birthdays to celebrate this year!! I do my best to make your little one's day special at school. If you would like to drop off (healthy) treats or participate in their celebration, please let me know ahead of time. We always have birthday songs at the end of the day (during supper around 2:30). Even though we can't accept any homemade treats, fresh fruit, popscicles, and mini cupcakes are always a bit hit :) Call me if you need ideas and/or want to set aside some extra time.
Classroom Jobs
Everyone in our classroom has a job. Some are floor sweepers, some are door holders, some are paper passers. All of the jobs are age-appropriate and will help the students develop a sense of responsibility and real-world skills. Jobs are rotated weekly. Ask your child what they are in charge of this week!
Food
Students are encouraged to bring a healthy snack with them to class every day. We take a 5-7 minute break in our classroom around 9:45. They have a chance to eat, walk around, socialize, conspire and anything else they aren't able to do while in their normal seats. They can eat anything you want to provide. If students aren't able to bring their own snacks, there are often some in the "sharing fridge"... Jefferson snack/sharing policy Smart snack calculator School menus
Practice Cards
Teacher will provide one verbal warning (first month of school only)
Teacher will discretely distribute one “practice” card to the student when appropriate.
Student will stay in the classroom the following recess for five minutes per card received.
Student will verbally practice the rule (or rules) they did not follow in class for that time.
It is the student’s responsibility to remember to stay in. A missed practice time results in double the time the following school day.
If the student receives more than THREE practice cards in a week, teacher will make a parent contact.
An Opportunity To Improve (OTI) sheet will be given for any behaviors beyond the level of minor classroom disruption.
Unsafe behaviors will result in immediate Incident Report and referral to the Principal.
Helping Out
I welcome volunteers in my classroom. Please let me know if you are interested in helping as a reading helper, field trip chaperon, or anything in between. Many of you have specialized talents, we would love to add your unique talents to our learning experience! Possible volunteer opportunities:
